A Hug in A Bowl: Timlo Solo

Traveljunkieindonesia.com – Last week, I was invited to lunch at Warung Makan Timlo Sasro 2, a traditional Javanese restaurant in Solo.

Timlo is a famous soup in Solo. Timlo is special dish contains of chicken meat chopped into pieces, cooked egg and chicken’s liver in clear soup. Served to accompany fried onion topping rice. Unlike the typical Timlo in other local town, Timlo Solo is served without mushroom and thin noodles.

This is my ABSOLUTE favourite. Timlo sastro becomes one of the most wanted local food when someone travels to Solo. One bowl is never enough. Ahhhh DELICIOUS!!!

Timlo Solo Recipe

50 gr vermicelli/glass noodle, scalded, drained
6 pieces of fried sausage solo, slice 1 cm thick
2 tbsp fried onions, ready to use
2 tbsp oil for stir frying
8 shallot, mashed
3 garlic, mashed
6 pairs chicken liver & gizzard, clean
3 tbsp sweet soy sauce
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp ground pepper

750 ml water
3 boiled eggs, peeled
2 litre water
1 free-range chicken, cut to 4 pieces
1 spring onion, cut crosswise 1 cm
2 tbsp oil for stir frying
8 shallot, slice thinly
5 garlic, slice thinly
1 1/2 tsp salt
3/4 ground white pepper
1 tbsp sweet soy sauce

Soy sauce cordiment:
6 red bird’s eye chilli, mashed
3 garlic, fried, mashed
6 tbsp sweet soy sauce

1) Heart & Gizzard Soy Sauce — Eggs Soy Sauce * adventurelicious *: Heat oil, stir fry onion and garlic until fragrante. Add the heart and gizzard, and cook until stiff. Add the sweet soy sauce, salt, and pepper, mix well . Pour the water, add the eggs. Cook until the water recede and all the ingredients cook. Remove from heat. Take the eggs, cut lengthwise 2 parts. Set aside.

2) Soup: Boil the water with chicken and scallions over low heat until chicken is cooked. Remove and set aside.Heat oil, saute onion and garlic until fragrant, remove from heat. Put it in chicken stock and stir well. Heat again stock, add salt, pepper, and soy sauce and stir well. Bring to a boil. Take the chicken, shredded coarsely.

3) Serving: Arrange suun (vermicelli/glass noodle), solo fried sausage, shredded chicken, liver and gizzard, boiled eggs in a serving bowl. Pour soup. Sprinkle with fried shallots. Serve immediately with soy sauce chilli.

Aahhh it was sooooo goooood. I absolutely love Timlo Solo.
