Traveljunkieindonesia.com – This day, we bring you to an italiano party at DOC Espresso, Melbourne.
A short drove from our hotel. In a car, I played a song ‘Nel blu, dipinto di blu’ and ‘Nessum Dorma!’ by Luciano Pavarotti.
DOC Espresso was dressed in contemporary decor that didn’t hint at any specific region of Italy but the menu at first glance was certainly bursting with provincial goodness.
Not the internationalised Italian food of Milan that seems to be prevalent in Lygon but simple, rustic fare that reminded me fondly of Tuscany, Campania, Lazio, Emilia Romagna, Abruzzo and Pulgia.

The atmosphere is cosy with long wooden tables, soft lighting at night and the chatter of Italiano.
Despite the busy dinner hour, the staff organised an entire table for us and service was both friendly and efficient.
The highlight for me is the Spuntino and Pasta – origin-sourced, handmade and homemade that promises true-to-Italy flavours.

The large order of “salumi e formaggi misti” spuntino, a paddle of various cured meats and Italian cheeses for easy sharing among our group.
Yummmeeeh!

We accompanied that with a range of pasta flavours including the Campania spaghetti al pomodoro with san marzano tomato and fresh basil, Emilia Romagna traditional lasagna with meat sauce and bechamel, and the pasta of the day with a generous grating of reggiano parmigiano DOP.
Portions of all orders were reasonable and the flavours were individually satisfying. It was PERFECTO!
All in all, DOC Espresso is an excellent place for sharing rustic Italian flavours, conversations and wine with family and friends, just like back in Italy.
A big thank you Tourism Victoria, Tourism Australia, my readers, for following and supporting me on this journey!
