Name: Agata Filiana
Hometown: Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Residence: Zurich, Switzerland
Travel Blog: dreamexplorewander.com
Twitter: @dewtraveller
Short Bio: A girl in her 20s itching to dream, explore and wander the face of the earth.
How did you first get into travel blogging: I was frustrated revising for my exams, randomly looked at my travel pictures and realized I had too much travel tales to keep to myself.
What do you love most about being a travel blogger: The ability to share my stories and the friends I make along the way.
What’s the secret to creating a successful travel blog: Consistent in updating your blog, a travel blogger who rarely blogs is not a travel blogger.
How do you get your blog noticed amongst the millions of other blogs out there: I always write about my experience, even if two people travel to the same destination, there will be two very different perspectives. So my perspective combined with my personality.
What advice would you give to fledgling travel bloggers: Be consistent in updating your blog, be on the look out for something unique while travelling and spice it up with your personality.
How do you make money out of travel blogging: I started travel blogging as a hobby, plus with my other life as a student, I haven’t yet had the time to make real cash out of my blog, it’s something I’m looking into though.
How do you fit in blogging while on the road: Usually I blog after I travel, or in the night. I want to really be absorbed in my travel, I usually just scribble important things in my notebook.
What’s your most epic travel story: Epic would be to Pompeii, Italy. I have been wanting to go there since in year 6 of primary school because of my history project. 13 years later my dream came true, it doesn’t get anymore epic than that.
What is your favourite destination so far: A hard question. I fell in love with Brasov-Bran, Romania and Warsaw, Poland – I love the untouched beauty of Eastern Europe.
What’s been your biggest travel disaster: I wouldn’t call them disaster, but I did get stung by a jellyfish in Mykonos right on my lip and in Bucharest I was chased by an old, drunken man after he tried to do a stripper show in front of me on the street in broad daylight.
What are your top gadgets that you always take travelling: Kindle for reading, iPod for music.
What’s your favourite phrase in a foreign language: “Mai bine mai tarziu decat niciodata” is in Romanian meaning “better late than never” and also “Je voudrais beaucoup de macarons s’il vous plaît?” – oh wait, that’s not a phrase 😛
Would you ever do any other job: This is a job I could picture myself do and love, but I also can picture myself being a teacher, I love to teach especially to little kids.
What’s next on your bucket list: I’m not a bucket list person, but I do want to visit Slovenia, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Favorite travel blog/website(s) – besides Traveljunkieindonesia.com, of course!: bridgekeepingtraveller.com for Mariella’s enchanting writing, jalan2liburan.com for the amazing places Febbie’s been, and debbzie.com Debbie has so much in common with me when it comes to travelling.
What has travel taught you: To be open-minded, to understand different cultures, to be tolerant
Best travel tip? Enjoy being where you are, be immersed in the culture and please don’t spend all your time clicking your camera away.
Happy Sustainable Travels!
