Innsbruck Alpine Zoo, Austria

Thetraveljunkie.org – The alarm sounds at 6.45 in the morning. We close our daily bags and leave home. One of the best places that Innsbruck is good for is the diversity of Alpine Fauna, hence why we decided to visit the Alpine Zoo, where you will see the more than 2,000 animals that call the four-hectare Innsbruck Alpine Zoo home in a mountain setting that makes this one of the most unique zoos you’ll encounter.

Peer into habitats of animals native to the area, including ibexes, brown bears, otters, golden eagles and wolves, at the Alpine Zoo high above Tirol’s capital Innsbruck.

The zoo is unique in that it focuses solely on the animals that inhabit the Alps. With its distinctive mountainside setting on foot of rugged Nordkette Mountain Range and with engaging exhibits and irresistible attractions, at Innsbruck Alpine Zoo, the wonders of the wild are just a short trip away.
Large alpine habitats are home to over 100 species of animals. You’ll find that most animals are in open areas that simulate their natural environments – it’s the visitors who follow enclosed paths within these habitats.

Kids will love the working farm on premises where they can mix and mingle with smaller animals such as Turopolje pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, and cows. Picnic areas with outdoor seating can be found at various locations around the zoo. The lovely sunlit patio is a great place to relax and take a break from your journey around Innsbruck’s Alpine Zoo.

Little ones will go wild in our one-of-a-kind, nature-themed playground, which features a bear den. That’s just the start of your WILD adventure at the Zoo!

Stay tuned for more of our adventures in Innsbruck, Austria.
